I'm the kind of girl..

I'm the kind of girl who likes to keep people happy. Who likes to entertain, and who likes to be liked (aren't we all?). Last night's blogger happy hour with Whitney and Erin was awesome, I got to meet a lot of fantastic bloggers who all had some great questions and great input.

Print found here
I posed the question "What do you do when you're in a blogging slump?" and I got so so many great replies. At one point Erin said "Personally, I think we make our blogs a bigger deal than they really are, and 90% of the time, no one cares as much as we do." I couldn't agree more. I mean how many people actually get up thinking, OMG I wonder what Kalyn wrote on her blog today??? I can answer that question: two. My mom and my aunt, and the only reason I know this is because they told me. (And I think it's incredibly sweet and awesome that they care so much).

But really, we put so much into our blogs and sometimes we have to take a step back and realize, it is just a blog. But with being a girl who likes to be liked, I feel like I have to perform. I have to show up to this party five days a week and says something worth reading and be on social media and comment and reply and jump through a thousand hoops, when really it isn't the case.

So, all of that crazy intro is leading up to something totally different, because when I read about Holly's "I'm the kind of girl..." link up, I knew I had to join in all the fun. In addition to being the kind of girl who likes to make everyone happy, I'm the kind of girl who...

...puts everything off to the last minute. I don't know why, but every time I try to start on a project/paper/presentation that is due on a certain day, it never fails that I fiddle fart around until the day before (or morning of) to finish it. Maybe it's the adrenaline rush knowing that if I don't finish it right now then it will be too late that makes me perform better.

...prefers scortching temperatures over freezing ones. I know everyone and their dog has been complaining about winter, but now I want to join in the fun. I know that if I lived anywhere other than southern Alabama, I'd never make it. I think 40 degrees is freezing and 20 is a reason to call in to work. Give me 90 and sunny any day.

...isn't afraid to try something new. Oh, you want me to try that fried squid that is still moving? Sure! You want me to get on a bike (after years of not riding) and ride 8 miles of the toughest trails in the state? Why not! I think that trying new things, especially things that scare us just a little, can be refreshing and rewarding. Even if you don't like it, at least you can be proud of your self for trying.

...would rather stay home and binge on Netflix than go out and party. If you picked any weekend over the past several months, there's a 99% chance you would find me and Derek on the couch watching Netflix (or the Olympics recently) and I'm perfectly okay with that. the opposite of a "type A" personality. I really am a "fly by the seat of my pants" kind of lady. I've never been a person to use planners or make lists or double confirm things. This goes along with the procrastination thing, but sometimes I think it's fun to go somewhere with no set plans in mind and just do whatever comes to mind. But, there have also been times where it's bitten me in the butt.

What kind of girl are you?

Oh my gosh ... the procrastination thing. I totally relate to you on that one! Over the weekend I was at Barnes and Noble with a friend and she pointed out a book about procrastination and I said, "Oh cool, I'll have to read that sometime." I'm even procrastinating about reading about procrastination. Ugh.

I am totally a people-pleaser! And I've been trying to be more spontaneous. I'm a total type-A but I appreciate going with the flow. I admire people like you who are the fly by the seat of your pants type :) Thank you so much for linking up!!

Love posts like this - it's so fun to learn new things about fellow bloggers. I would almost always rather stay in with Netflix and hot chocolate than go out to a bar/club!

Oh I'm with you on the procrastination problem! I do it with everything work or personal related (hence why I run around like a man woman when I leave myself 15 minutes to get ready in the morning). I once read people procrastinate because they love drama. me?! drama?! no

I feel like we're so similar and yet so different! It's weird how that works. I'm a definite procrastinator and I very much prefer staying home most weekends rather than going out to parties and such. But I am terrified of trying new things. I am the last one you will be able to get to try something out of my comfort zone and I hate it!

i'm with you on the staying in instead of going out. if i'm going to go out after work, i need to do it right after work because if i make it home, the pants will come off the second i step through that door and ain't no way i'm leaving the house.

I totally agree with you about the blog thing. I stress way too much over what to write and I write something I think is just so-so and it really resonates with my readers! Thanks for sharing:)

I'd much rather have a small group come over than go to a huge party. Don't get me wrong, I love going out.. in small doses.

Love this post. Actually I haven't posted in about a week because I didn't know what to write about and was thinking "gosh why do I even blog? I have nothing interesting to say!"-- so this was timely for me!

FRIED SQUID THAT IS STILL MOVING?! Nooooooo! Although, I did eat live tiny shrimp in a soup in China once. I ended up with an allergic reaction and a rash that lasted for eight weeks. I'm not sure if it was necessarily related to the shrimp, but it was definitely coincidental timing.

I love this post! I'm definitely a huge procrastinator too- I always tell myself that I'l use a blog planner or a planner for school, but they just sit in my bag collecting dust while I tell myself I'll remember everything!

I'm a last minute person too. I always have the best intentions and then I get sidetracked and distracted until I'm literally rushing to get things done at the last second. Nothing like stressing myself out. And Netflix is my jam... I don't think I could go without it now.

Rachel said...

I totally believe that a blog is not worth stressing over. What I do when I'm not feeling creative is I stay away from my computer for a day or two. Usually that's long enough to get my fingers itching to write again!!

Rachel Murphree said...

I'm with you on the staying in with Netflix part. And I think that bloggers do tend to stress themselves out over nothing. I worry that blogging creates too much of a clique that women feel they need to keep up with to be a part of, and that leads to so much unnecessary stress and silliness, ya know?

I agree with you about a Netflix night...the fun of the movies with the comfort of home :D

The procrastination thing is hereditary I think! Along with almost every other thing you put in your post, except the eating the squid that is still moving. haha I love your blog Sweet and although it is the first thing I read when I turn on my computer after work, please don't ever feel like you HAVE TO write something. I think of your blog as a little gift from you to me, it lets me know what is going on in your life at the time. Although we don't talk nearly as often as I would like, I totally understand that life is just too full of stuff to do all of the things your heart wants to do. Just know that I love you and cherish you. Aunt KK
