Well. Last week I was doing good, and blogged FOUR days. In a row. And I thought to myself, “Self, you are on a roll… I bet next week you’ll blog FIVE days in a row!”
Obviously that didn’t happen.
Ever since I got back from vacation, we have been deep cleaning all of the patient rooms in our facility. Why, you ask, is a nurse doing cleaning and not housekeeping? Because I have a responsibility to my patients to make sure they are staying in the best environment possible, that’s why. So with all of this deep cleaning (I’m talking, on my hands and knees scrubbing the you-know-what out of some furniture) I come home every day completely exhausted. Even thought I’m only working eight hours at the most, it is eight hours of manual labor and when I get off at 3 or 4 it’s all I can manage to not fall asleep as soon as I get home.
In addition, this week I started training again for my next triathlon in September. I’m so excited about this one because it’s the same one I signed up for last year (but didn’t get to participate in ) in Gulf Shores, and this time around Derek decided he is going to do it with me. But training is tough. This morning I went to spin class to get some biking in, but I made the mistake of doing legs at the gym yesterday and now I can barely walk.
Speaking of triathlons, I know I said I’d do a re-cap of the one I did last month, but I just don’t think I am. Basically, it went like this: I jumped off a boat into the river, swam to shore, biked 12 miles (with the last half-mile being up a hill and totally brutal), then I ran 3.2 miles, which was my worst and slowest part of the race.
My time was 1 hour and 43 minutes, which was three minutes over my goal time. But in reality, my goal was just to finish without being carried across the finish line on a stretcher, and that’s exactly what I did. I was 7th in my age group. So my goal for the next one is to finish at least 20 minutes faster so I’ve started training hard.
So really all of this was to say: I’m tired. Not really mentally, but physically. It’s all I can do to keep myself awake long enough to eat dinner when I get home. Maybe we’ll try for five days next week?
